Dr. Stuart Strachan, also known by his clown name Mr. Jolly and as the mysterious Blackmailer, is a former Doctor turned clown and the son of Edwina Kenchington.

Appearances[]

Series One[]

Mr. Jolly is present throughout the entire series, though is not seen directly until episode 3 'Jelly'. Mr. Jelly, under the assumption that Jolly has been sending him the blackmail messages, appears at the soft play area he is working at that day to confront him. After a lengthy chase through the play area, Jelly shows him the letter, to which he reveals that they were actually intended for him.

The two appear again when Jolly's car breaks down. In this scene, Jolly reveals to Jelly that he used to work at Ravenhill Hospital, and had witnessed many of the horrific acts that Edwina Kenchington had performed on the patients.

While Mr. Jelly is in the middle of a show at the Sunnyvale retirement home, he receives a call from Jolly, saying that he's figured out who the blackmailer is and will be at his home to update him soon. However, upon Jelly's arrival home, he is met with the corpse of Mr. Jolly on his floor, and the mystery assailant making a hurried call to the police. This leads Jelly to make his way to Ravenhill.

At Ravenhill, the ex-patients (and Jelly) are led to a room via the use of a video tape of the voice of David. They soon find themselves trapped, as metal bars drop down to cover the doors. The mystery blackmailer talks to the group about his intentions - they had all had a hand in the murder of Edwina two years prior, and he was intending to take revenge. The group immediately retaliate, stating that the blackmailer didn't know just how horrific she could be, but this is untrue. He stands up, turns to the group, and reveals two things - one being that Edwina was his mother, and the other being that he is Mr. Jolly, who is not dead. He continues on at the group for a short time, before being interrupted by a late arrival; what he did not expect, however, is that this would be his mother (who is also not dead, despite popular belief). Suddenly, he grows quite distressed, telling her to leave. His agitation did have a purpose, though, and he quickly reveals that he has a bomb strapped to him under his jacket. He dies in the subsequent explosion.
